2005 News

CRCA Show Pueblo, Colo June 9-12, 2005

As usual a fun show - extra nice this year due to the cool temperatures and evening rains. This show was a quiet one for us; only Ryan, Marilyn and I (Jamie) attended.

It was tough this year, lots of good horses and everyone brought their A game. No room for mistakes - and we had a few. Still everyone did well in the Stallion Stakes and won some go round money, so all was not lost.

In the Stallion Stakes Open Derby, Marilyn was second on Im A Little Smarty owned by Kathryn Schaapveld, Ryan was third on Smart N Brandied (and was also second in the $1K Limited), I was fourth on LDL Pollyanna Lena, and Marilyn was fifth on LDL Okie Lena owned by Pat MacNamera.

The star of the show for our barn was definitely Peptomatic, he was his usual dynamic self and won the Open Bridle. I also showed him in the Bridle Spectacular - we had a good run in the herd work marking a 143.5 and really made up ground in the dry marking a 147.5, the icing however was the fence work where we marked a 148.5. It was only good enough for second in the tough Spectacular, but I had a lot of fun showing him and could not complain about his performance. Marilyn also showed Buster Leo Lena, owned by Doris Oakes, in the Bridle Spectacular, and was sitting well after the herd work, but the bridle, like the derby, was very tough and a few mistakes in the dry work denied their shot at top placings. They came back to give a very good run in the fence work which left them both feeling better.

This show was also the first outing for a few of the futurity horses, everyone traveled well and gave a good effort in the 3yr old jackpot. All that you can ask for the first time out... so looking forward to the next show. Happy Riding and thanks for checking out the web site!

2004 News

From the first annual NRCHA World Championship show, February 2004:

2003 NRCHA Limited Open World Champion
No Fat Chics, ridden by Jamie Peters
Owned by Kathryn Schaapveld
(as printed in the NRCHA Stock Horse News)

Jamie Peters, of Edmond, Oklahoma, is a young trainer off to a brilliant start. Only 26, she has grown up with the example of her mother, also a trainer, Marilyn Peters. She had this to say: "My mother is my mentor. She is a great person, smart, loving, and a good hand."

On her World Championship ride, aged gelding -No Fat Chics -Jamie Peters stated it eloquently, "He has won several saddles - and lots of  hearts". No Fat Chics (Smart Chic Olena X Mokie Merle X Okie Leo) name may still elicit a chuckle or two, but the grand 11-year-old sorrel gelding has nothing but respect from his peers. His show career is long and rich. A few recent wins include the South Central Region Open Bridle Championship, the Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Year-end Bridle Championship, the 2003 South Central Non Pro Limited Champion, the North Central Region Limited Open Reserve Championship, the 2003 Limited Open Bridle Championship at the NRCHA Futurity Horse Show in Reno, 5th in the 2003 Senior Workiing Cow Horse at the AQHA World Show (he has been an AQHA Reserve World Champion in the past), and the 2002 Silver Year-End Open Bridle Reserve Champion.

The younger Peters and No Fat Chics scored a 573.5 at Stephenville and received a check for $1,275. Jamie Peters added, "I want to thank my family for their support, as well as Kathryn (Schaapveld) for not only allowing me to show her great horse, but also for being the wonderful person and friend that she is."

2003 NRCHA Open Two Rein World Champion
Smart Little Coach, ridden by Marilyn Peters
Owned by Stephanie LeGrande
(as printed in the NRCHA Stock Horse News)

Oklahoma based trainer Marilyn Peters had quite a year. From Edmond, Oklahoma, Peters is located within striking distance of two of the newly implemented NRCHA Regions, the North Central and the South Central Region. Peters saddled 3 different horses to take 4 Championship titles in two regions.

Although Smart Little Coach won the Open Two Rein World Championship at Stephenville, bear in mind he already had scored a leading title in the regional championships as well -Open Bridle Champion for the North Central Region. Smart Little Coach (Little Dors Lena X Misty Lee Okie X Kim's Okie Leo) is owned by Stephanie LeGrande, also of Edmond. Marilyn fondly calls him "Toad", because she remembers him as "such a fat little baby". He's by Peter's late stallion, Little Dors Lena (Smart Little Lena X Docs Missy Val X Doc's Val d'Or). She has ridden the bay gelding since he was a 2-year-old. Together they have earned several futurity placings, and won the Southern States Derby when he was a 4 year-old.

According to Peters, Toad loves his job. She said "He is really cute, but he is full of himsetf -quite a character!" She added, "He is an awesome fence horse, and has unbelievable acceleration for his size." She was most proud of Toad's showing at the two-day 2003 Colorado Reined Cow Horse Association Futurity Show in Pueblo, Colorado. She explained "In the Open Bridle classes, three of the first four horses marked composite scores of over 290. He marked composites of 299, 297.5 and 297. His fence runs scored 150, 151, and 152: "It was awesome and really fun!" Peters added.

2003 News

2003 NRCHA South Central Region Open Hackamore Champion
Buster Leo Lena, ridden by Marilyn Peters
Owned by Doris Oakes
(as printed in the NRCHA Stock Horse News)

In 2003, Oklahoma-based trainer Marilyn Peters showcased her versatility as a trainer of reined cow horses, winning Open Bridle, Open Hackamore, and double Open Two Rein Championships in 2 of the 5 regions newly implemented by NRCHA. Peters saddled 3 different horses to take 4 Championship titles in two regions.

Such dominance is echoed only in the Northwest Region, by seasoned veteran and NRCHA Affiliate Representative Dan Roeser, who showed 4 different horses to win the Open Bridle, Open Hackamore, and was the Open and Reserve Champion in Two Rein.

It was a highlight for Peters in a bitter-sweet year. Among the challenges, Peters lost her mother. Another heartfelt loss was her beloved stallion, who recently had to be put down. She took a moment to reflect and thanked her family, especially her husband, and their customers for all their support.

Along with daughter Jamie, Peters will be bringing a very full trailer to the first ever NRCHA World Show. One of those horses in her trailer will be Buster Leo Lena (Little Dors Lena X Misty Lee Okie X Kim's Okie Leo), owned by Doris Oakes of Seiting, Oklahoma. Peters has ridden him for four years. Some previous wins for the now 6-year-old include a top ten finish in the 2002 NRCHA Silver Year-End Open Hackamore Championship race, a Reserve Championship in the SRCHA Open Hackamore in 2002, and a Reserve Championship at the SRCHA Fall Futurity in 2001.

2003 NRCHA South Central Region Open Bridle Champion
No Fat Chics, ridden by Jamie Peters
Owned by Kathryn Schaapveld
(from article in the NRCHA Stock Horse News)

No Fat Chics' (Smart Chic Olena X Mokie Merte X Okie Leo) name may still elicit a chuckle or two, but the grand 11-year-old sorrel gelding has nothing but respect from his peers. His show career is long and rich. Most recently piloted to many of his achievements in 2003 by Jamie Peters of Edmond, Oklahoma, No Fat Chics has also won numerous titles for Jamie's mother, Marilyn, and the 2003 Non Pro Limited title was with his owner Kathryn Schaapveld aboard. He even carried Schaapveld to a respectable 7th place finish in the Non Pro Limited at the NRCHA Futurity Horse Show in Reno.

Jamie Peters stated it eloquently; "He has won several saddles... and lots of hearts." She added, "He is a ham - he loves applause and poses for his pictures. Tell him he's pretty and he's your buddy."

Peter's confided, "Earlier this year I was going to school him at a show. He had already been shown by Kathryn (Schaapveld, owner) that day so I was just going to lope him through the pattern and school him down the fence. It was late, the rest of the crew had unsaddled, and they were sitting in the stands. When we walked into the pen they all started whistling and hooting. Fat's head came up, his ears went forward, and he took me for a ride! I was laughing so hard I could hardly stay on, let alone school! Every time they whistled or cheered, he would look over at them as if to say 'you liked that? - well watch THIS!'

Jamie Peters is a young trainer off to a brilliant start. Only 26, she has grown up with the example of her mother Marilyn Peters. She had this to say; "My mother is my mentor.
